About the Research Team
We are curious about what young people who make art do or choose not to do with AI.
Our research team brings together graduate researchers in Art Education at Concordia University to explore how young people encounter, use, adapt, question, or refuse generative AI in their creative lives. We work across art, education, digital culture, and emerging technologies, paying close attention to the choices young people make and the meanings they create along the way.
Led by Juan Carlos Castro, our team approaches research as a collaborative process of listening, making, questioning, and learning with young people.
Research Team Member

Juan Carlos Castro
Principal Investigator
Dr. Juan Carlos Castro is a Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Art Education at Concordia University. His research examines how young people learn through digital media to support their creative practice. He has led multiple SSHRC-funded studies on the creative practices of youth in digital visual learning networks and is editor of Mobile Media in and outside of the Art Classroom: Attending to Identity, Spatiality, Movement, and Materiality (2019) and co-editor of Investigating the Creative Practices of Youth in Digital Visual Learning Networks (2025) with Dr. Joanna Black.

Bonnie Tongjun Guo
Project Manager
Bonnie Tongjun Guo is an interdisciplinary mixed-media artist and PhD student in Art Education at Concordia University. Her practice moves across material experimentation, digital imagery, installation, and AI-assisted processes, exploring how bodies, technologies, and more-than-human worlds encounter one another through sensory experience. Drawing from her interests in biodiversity, ecological imagination, and posthuman ways of seeing, Guo creates poetic visual and material works that reflect on care, perception, and the fragile relationships between human and nonhuman life.
